US 17 between Charleston and Myrtle Beach

Planning my route to the IRV2 rally in Mrytle Beach and thought I would add stops at Savanna and Charleston on the way up. The map Quest suggests leaving Charleston and heading out to I-95 when going north to Myrtle Baech but Highway 17 looks like a more direct route. Other than computer error is there a reason to stay off of US 17 between Charleston and Myrtle Beach?

We left James Island CG (Charleston) and ran 17 to MB in December with no problem. It's a state highway what are your concerns?

I was just wondering why the route was not suggested in the first place. I will be towing a toad 4 down and hope not to have any tight construction zones, or other restrictions. Thanks for you response. I remember taking 17 and 301 from Virginia to Florida in 1971. It was a scenic if slow route to florida at the time before I-95 was complete.

We ran up US-17 from Charleston to Huntington Beach SP last winter. There's a bit of traffic out through Mt. Pleasant but it wasn't bad mid-day. After that just cruise along, good road. No idea north of Huntington Beach SP.

We ran down 17 from Virginia Beach to Savannah in the fall of 2012...because it was the closest highway to the ocean. Nothing wrong with it as long as you are not in a hurry.

I find that my navigator and Streets & Trips often disagree on the route.

Lots of construction and crowded roads south of MB. Just take it easy and watch out for toursts.
