This is my "backyard area" I live 16 miles from Huntington WV and 12 from Ashland KY.
Are You REALLY sure you travel up 52 though WV??
15 years ago I drove my rollback tow truck from Huntington WV to Welch WV to get a totaled car for a salvage yard.
The things I remembered are its was a all day run going both ways.(as in 10-11 hours total)
And I remember my arms being sore from steering my 200 inch Wheelbase tow truck all day(even with good power steering).
This road is one of reasons the interstate system was built.
US route 23 up though Kentucky is just as scenic and not neatly are torturous on the driver.
I did it on a Motorcycle years ago from Kingsport TN to Ashland KY. Very beautiful country.
