US 54

Looking for a new route from Phoenix to I35N. Need info on US54 from Tucumcari, NM to Witchita, KS. We've hit some really rough [frame benders] roads on the other 'traditional' routes from Phoenix to Duluth.

Good road all the way. Plenty of fueling options and places to overnight. We’ve driven it both directions, light traffic both times.

Have traveled between Phoenix and Omaha NE many times on 54. Not a bad road, plenty of fuel stops and places to boondock overnight.

At the east end of Meade KS you can pick up 160. There's no truck traffic on 160 and doesn't have as many small towns to slow down and go through. It's my route of choice to pick up the KS toll road just south of Wichita.

We came from Iowa to Arizona on 54 again this year. It is generally a pretty good route, but this year we noticed the stretch between Dalhart, TX and the border with New Mexico was pretty rough. We slowed down to about 55 until we got to New Mexico.

Just came up 54, overall very good road. It does get a lot of truck traffic and probably over half of it is 2 lane with some passing lanes.
