Question, how is US 550 between Albuquerque NM and Durango CO for a 39' class A and toad.
Looking to take in the Canyon areas of Utah stopping in Moab and St. George for around 2 weeks. I stop at Durango for a day or two if this route is good for my rig.
The plans are to leave Clearwater FL about the 20th of May for about a month vacation.
If this isn't a suitable route, what does every one recommend.
New to RVing all recommendations wanted!
Looking at Riverside Osis in Moab and Temple View RV Resort in St. George. Other RV Parks are not ruled out just looked at some other recommendations in older posts (Help wanted).

On US 550 , once you leave Alburqueque, set your cruise at 60-65 and set back end enjoy the view. However, US550 from Durango to Montrose, leave the m/h somewhere, and take your toad, if you're brave, have good brakes, and nerves of steel.

You can watch it already on that clip channel or ask Mr. Google.
You need a good stomach to take the view in. If you are a Mountain Driver you should be ok, if not, don't take that route

Alb to Silverton (north of Durango) is no problme at all. From Silverton to Ouray is a two lane mountain road. I've done it with no problem in a 45' with a toad. Tour busses and semis are overe that road daily. The issue with folks that are "scared" is the fact that there are no guard rails and virtually no right of way. If you decide to go through Silverton and on North I suggest the road that runs from Ridgeway, CO to LaSal, UT is a good two lane road then take US 191 north to Moab
That is probably the MOST scenic route to get from Albto Moab. The part of 550 that some consider "scary" is called The Million Dollar Highway. It's no problem.....just pay attention and let passengers look at the scenery.
Check out OK RV Park or Canyonlands for quiet in Moab

Yes, that route is good but IMHO I would go through Cortez to take a look at Mesa Verde then up through Dove Creek, CO to Monticello, UT then North to Moab. If you don't care about Mesa Verde I'd still go that way. With very few exceptions even two lane roads out West are quite suitable for RV's.
We're in Moab now and over the years I've gotten to Moab about every way you can get here.......good roads. There's nothing to be scared of on 550 either (between Silverton and Ouray)
Just hjoller if you need info for this area

this route is great. I took it in 2007, 2008, 2009. As another post said, I would stop in Cortez and see Mesa Verde. Also while in Durango, go in the toad to Silverton. Or better yet take the steam train.
