US-65 in Tennessee

Am planning a trip going going east through Memphis to Sevierville, TN and prefer not to use I-40. Am considering US-65 from Memphis to Chattanooga and then US-411 north. According to my Street Atlas program, That route adds 37 miles to the trip compared to the super-slab through Nashville. Would appreciate comments, please. I could use I-40 from Flagstaff, AZ all the way, but 3,800 miles of I-40 would be booorrring, and rough?

Did you mean US 64? I too would recommend using 70 as much as you can. In addition to the nice towns 70 will provide you better road conditions than 64. Be prepared for some heavy traffic when you get to some of the larger small towns.

You've picked a beautiful part of the country to hop off the interstate. I can't tell you about the surface streets or other routes, i've only driven I40 between Nashville and Memphis but it really is a gorgeous part of Tennessee. You might want to check out Lynn Anderson's RV park in or near Jackson.... not that I'm a big country music buff but her property is absolutely gorgeous..
Have a great trip
