US 70 from Asheville, NC to Hot Springs, NC

I've never traveled this stretch of road. Any steep grades anyone experience? I'm going up for a wedding in September and was just curious about any potential "white knuckling".

Not bad from Asheville to Hot Springs turn off. Pretty good grade up and over from the turn off to Hot Springs. Coming back, there is a short grade as soon as you turn right, back on to 70. But both are very doable

We have driven this road several times in a 29 ft Safari Trek, 454 gas engine, not towing. There are some twisty bits, and some climbs, but nothing too bad. Actually we may take this route to Asheville in the fall as a bypass to part of I-40. There are some truck passing lanes and, if I am holding up traffic, I try to find a spot to pull over and let them pass.

The campground is OK; mostly dirt and sand; next to the river. Kinda pricy if I remember correctly. Also, a nice restaurant within walking distance. Good craft beer.

I agree,it is not bad. Many use it as the detour route when I40 closes in the gap. (it has been closed many times due to landslides, often for very long durations)

Thanks all!

I feel better about it now. Might unhook the toad in Asheville and let the Queen fly lead. My niece is getting married up there and she just loves the area.
