US Hwy 50 from Co. Springs to Ouray, CO
I did a search, but couldn't find what I was looking for .... thoughts on driving a 45 ft motorhome pulling a Dodge Ram from Colorado Springs to Ouray, Colorado on Route 50. Looks like a lot of mountain passes. Keep in mind, I'm a flatlander! Thanks, Lynn

You'll have absolutely no problem for that beautiful drive. The only pass is Monarch Pass and it will be a downhill for you coming from the east. It is 6 miles long. I'm sure you know how to do a safe downhill in your RV. Enjoy the trip!

To help you out in the future get Mountain Pass Directory, there is an East and West version, both hardcopy and app.

Road r 50 across on my Harley years back, nice road and a beautiful drive, stop at the "Gardens of the God's"......if ya have time.......
https://www.gardenofgods.com/
Enjoy the drive Dan & Lynn and travel safe!
As far as being a Flatlander, wait till you get over by Ouray/Silverton/Telluride .......make sure to do the loop and down/up the "Million Dollar Highway" !
We parked the Coach at the KOA in Cortez and did the loop in the Jeep.....check out old time Durango for a walk back in time!

Looking forward to it. We were in Durango in 2016 with the coach. Did the train to Silverton and the bus back. Beautiful country. We are looking forward to spending a week or so in Ouray and going to Telluride and Silverton in our Ram. (not the coach!)

Lots more than just Telluride and Silverton - Might be the BEST 4X4 roads in all of America - Couple spots to think about in your Drives - Lake City - Marble - Crested Butte - Maroon Bells - Lizard Head - Black Canyon of the Gunnison NP.
SOunds like a GREAT TRIP!
.. ..
..
Best of Luck,

Thanks for the replies and making me feel more comfortable about the drive. Decided that we would take our time to Ouray and stop for three nights near Colorado Springs and then three nights in Gunnison. Any recommendations on campgrounds we should look at. Remember, 45 ft motorhome ... so need somewhere we will fit. Thanks, Lynn

For Ouray I'd suggest staying at nearby Ridgeway State Park. It has full hookups and is very scenic. We've stayed at the Pa-Co-Chu-Puk Campground and your 45' would easily fit. The Ouray RV parks are very tight with rows of RVs.
Colorado Parks & Wildlife - Camping & Yurts
Gunnison - we enjoy Lakeview Gunnison Campground at Taylor Park. Gorgeous open sites on a hill overlooking the lake - beautiful views. It's a national forest campground with electric only - big sites.
Gunnison town - Palisades 55+ park is best. We drove through it but didn't stay.

We did that a couple of summers ago with 32 class A. My wife always comments on how parts of the road actually slant down to the outside.

We've driven US-50 from Grand Junction to Salida without issues. Just manage your RPM and speed up and down Monarch and enjoy the pretty drive.

In Gunnison look at Palisades Senior RV park- for 55+ seniors. Have stayed there twice Close to town. No problem for 45 footers.
