We like to stay off the interstate when possible, and especially when there are tolls involved. How is the ride across Ohio on Route 30? Last year I had a great tip (!n the IRV2 forum) to use State Rt 2 from Cleveland to Toledo.
Is Route 30 a good ride? We're headed from Central Pa. to Elkhart. I'll probably use I-80 into Ohio.

Keith

Question, Keith:

If you're entering Ohio on I-80 west, where do you anticipate connecting to US-30? US-30 is way south of you. From what I see, taking I-80 west to I-76 west to I-71 south would get you to US-30 just east of Mansfield.

In Ohio, I've only traveled US-30 from Pittsburgh PA to the Canton/Massilion OH area. I don't think you'll riding on that stretch as you'd be going out of your way to reach it if you're entering Ohio on I-80 west.

Hi Frank,
Yes, We would be coming in on I-80, 76, 71, then picking up Route 30 as you described. We have traveled through Ohio on I-90 to State Route 2 and found it to be a good ride. This year we wanted to go a different way.

30 is an OUTSTANDING road. It is a little congested around Ft. Wayne (all 4 lane interstate. Warsaw, Indiana is the most difficult. If you are going West of Valp. Ind., I would go North on Rt. 49 to the Toll Road, West on I80 (toll road) to the South edge of Chicago. The area around the mall and I65 in Indiana is a disaster for traffic. This will save you at least 45 minutes and many traffic lights.

Enjoy Rt. 30.
