Utah HIGHWAY 12

We will be leaving Bryce around middle of May headed north. Want to do the scenic route 12 drive through Escalante etc... We have an 11 32 ft Southwind towing a Forester. Have read some articles on this and was wondering what to expect from someone who has driven this. Thanks

We stayed just outside Bryce. Then drove mh/toad to Escalante state park. From there we drove M/H and car , on rte 12, SEPARATELY, to Torrey. Only about 80 miles. Stopped at all the pull-outs to view the sights. Awesome is the word !!. Could have kept the car attached, but just felt better, since this was our first time there. [ and it was only a few miles]. Route 12 is a fascinating road. Just take your time. Some places the road "sides' seem to just "drop-off", and can look scarey, but it isn't. It would be a real shame to miss this wonderful opportunity. "Just do it".. You will be amazed...

Hwy 12 is an awesome drive and thousands of RVers drive it. It's a good paved two-lane road. There are pull-off areas but not shoulders along the whole route. Folks do not drive fast on it because of the surrounding scenery. You won't be rushed. I think the people who are afraid of it are so because the lack of shoulders. Plan to stop midway in Escalante to explore more of the areas without the RV. No need to be afraid of Hwy 12. We've done it often with our 40' MH towing. It's the best and most scenic way to get from Bryce to Capitol Reef.

There are a couple of service stations with diesel in the town of Escalante, and a couple in the town of Torrey. Less expensive in Escalante by about $.30.

Rte 12

Thanks, I couldn't find anything definitive about the availability of Diesel.

We will be traveling Zion, Bryce, Ecalante, Arches and Canyon Land beginning May, RTE 12 is one of our destinations but without fuel we would have had to just travel through, now we should be able to stay and play.

Its mostly wilderness, dude. Stock the pantry beforehand. There are numerous restaurants in Torrey, however.

My family loved this trip. We have many fond memories. It was probably the best trip we've taken.

Looking at the videos, looks like good road. Certainly no more of a challenge than the Beartooth Highway from Red Lodge, MT over to Yellowstone (we drove a 36' DP pulling a Ford Explorer over that road).

How long (distance in miles) from Bryce over to Torrey?
