Utah highways

We are in Utah and plan to visit several of the national parks. Namely Capital Reef, Brice, Zion and the Moab area. Our concerning is which highways to take between the parks.

We drive a 38 ft class a diesel pusher and tow a 5000 pound truck. We have heard that Utah 12 has some large hills. Are there other highways that we should avoid or be especially careful?

Any advise as to the best routes between these parks would be greatly appreciated.

I have not seen it personally but I have been told that a Motor Carriers Road Atlas contains great information on highways including max grades that are present.

It is an option to check out.

I have posed the question to Rand McNally atlases regarding information in their truckers atlas. Will post the answer once I get it.

Did that trip last year, Moab to Zion catching all the parks. Utah 12 was the only challenging drive because of the hills but worth doing as is very scenic. Did in 35 ft gas with 4000 lb toad, just took my time.

We've driven Hwy 12 many times with our 40' MH towing a Jeep. We love mountain driving so it an easy one for us. You didn't say what direction on Hwy 12 you'd be driving but if coming from Capitol Reef you have one long downhill and if coming from Bryce, it'll be an uphill. Since you're already in Utah it's probably too late to purchase the Mountain Directory - West online unless you can find it in a bookstore. It would give you a mile by mile on what to expect on the western roads.

Have a great trip. Those are favorite areas of ours.
