Utah Route 12

Anyone know if this highway is doable in a 40' motor coach with toad? We're planning a trip to see the NP's and I was considering this route from the southern parks (Zion/Bryce) up towards Arches. Thanks.

I believe 12 is doable, I've taken it out of Torrey headed south for some distance and it seemed easy enough. Medium to high elevations, some wind, not a lot of speed and a lot to see. I believe Highway 9 west out of Mt Carmel Junction/Hwy89 leads to a tunnel you cannot fit your rig into and a set of switchback that'll make your butt bite into the driver's seat and set off the wife alarm. But if you hike, you gotta do the Zion Narrows -- easy hike up a stream called the Zion River. Wow...

Hwy 12 is very doable with a big rig. We've done it many times with our 40' towing. The problem some folks have with it is that there are a few steep areas and also that there are no guard rails or few. If these conditions don't bother you and you can keep your RV on the pavement then you will totally enjoy the drive. The scenery is awesome. It's a major RVing route and many drive it.

Here's an excellent description of what you can see along Hwy 12.

Sure is - Some say no, but you can get an argument on most of the back roads in the SouthWest, think some people just don't like to drive.

Utube - look for yourself -

We love it and have driven out of our way to drive it - Most should have no issue.

Best of Luck,
