Virginia Beach to Toledo
We will be traveling from Virginia Beach to Toledo the end of January. We have a 34' Motor home pulling a toad. We are looking for recommendations to the best highways to take considering it is in the middle of winter. Thanks

I would avoid the PA Turnpike because it is narrow, crowded, and expensive. Unfortunately, unless you are going to go way out of your way you have to go through the mountains. I would go 64-77-and then 33 through Columbus, Or up 77 to 250. I go that way in April. Campgrounds with facilities will be tough to find. Here is one ripplingwaterscampground.com

To avoid Washington, D.C. and I-95 traffic, I'd leave Virginia Beach on I-264 to I-64 N. Go around Richmond, VA on I-264, continue on I-64 until I-64/81 S. Continue on I-64 across WV to Charleston. I-77 N to exit 146 U.S. 33 N. to Columbus, OH. I-270 around Columbus north east to U.S. 23 N to Findley, OH and I-75 to Toledo. Most other routes have traffic, tolls, or are longer. About 12 hours, an easy 2 day trip in RV without pushing it.

Toll roads are costly but my experience is they are maintained much sooner and better in bad weather. If it isn't snowing, take the cheaper routes

A couple more questions. Are the roads across the mountains fairly well kept during the winter and are the highways quite twisty?

It's all interstate until Ohio. U.S. 33 is a good highway, often 4 lane divided, but not limited access. Western VA and WV is hilly, but the interstates stick to federal guidelines, so no steep grades or sharp curves. Watch the weather, if you can, stay in place and wait for roads to be cleared if needed. I'd not be afraid to travel this route winter or summer.
