Vt to nh ..rt 9 or...

Hauling a 35 foot fifth wheel to Maine and coming in to Bennington. I hate rt 9 to Brattleboro, vt and want to try going to Rutland over to pick up I 89 to Nh then to Maine. What are your thoughts? I am the driver, he(hubby) just thinks he knows best. He wants to do the roller coaster over rt. 9

Before I can make a suggestion need a little more info. Where are you coming into Bennington from? How do you plan to get to ME from Brattleboro?

It will be pretty much a "roller coster" ride any way you go because of the White mountains and the Green mountains have to be crossed to get to Maine. You could do the Mass pike to 495N to 95N and get to Maine that way

Thanks folks, I am actually coming from NY rt 7 , I don't like rt 9 when going through Bennington you hit it, I am thinking of going up to Rutland heading to I89 and on from there. I think you have a roller coaster going up 4 past Killington, but after that it's not suppose to be so bad. But when you look at google or mapquest, after getting to Brat if you go Rt. 9, it seems like lots of curves and not as direct from there as going to 81 to Maine via Rutland.

The problem is that what you have done by going to Rutland and then 4 to 89, is that 89 then takes you way back south to Manchester which is a long way around. If you just want to get to ME and you are anywhere near Albany, take the thruway east to the mass pike and when you get to exit 10 in MA, get off, take 290 to 495 which becomes 95 and you are almost there. This may be a little farther than just following 9 from Bennington and there are tolls, but it is an easy ride.
Lived in VT for 40 years and now in MA for 25 and I would use the route I suggested. My second choice would be 9.
Good luck, travel safe, enjoy Maine.
