What is the best route from Washington, DC to Foxboro, MA without going through Philly or NY City? Any help will be appreciated.

Brent, Stay on the I-95 across the Delaware Memorial Bridge and then look for the New Jersey Turnpike. Continue North until you see signs for I-287. On 287 you will by-pass NY City via New Jersey. Follow I-287 North to New England. Cross the Tappan Zee Bridge and continue on the 287 toward White Plains, NY. Right before White Plains look for I-684 and go up to I-84 toward Danbury, CT. Stay on the I-84 until you get to Boston and then look for the I-495 South. Foxboro is just down the road a few miles.

That's the route we go, and we live 20 minutes from Normandy Farms. Please don't tell me you're coming up here in the snow!

Don't forget to fuel up in NJ. The prices in Mass and Conn are wicked....

There's a Hook in Carney's Point right on the other side of the bridge. Sometimes gas on the pike might be lower than the hook, who knows but you will find it to be the same all the way up the pike. Try NOT to fill in Connecticut. They're waiting for you!

You can use Internet gasoline price guides to plan your trip.

Gas on the NJ turnpike was $3.04 a week ago Sunday, first stop in CT was $3.39 but it did drop some as you head north. RI has dropped a bit since we arrived last Sunday and is $3.17 now. MA should be about the same as RI.

I just traveled close to that route this past spring.

My preferred route would be over to I-81N however you can get there.
I-81 to I-76E (Or you could stay on I-81N to I-84E)
I-76E to PA-33N
PA-33N to US-209N
US-209N to I-84E
I-84E to I-90E (Mass Pike - not expensive)
I-90E to I-495S
I-495S to exit to Foxboro.

I would only use Interstates this time of year. Actually I would not go there this time of year.

The route I described is a very nice ride in a MH. We had no problems on any of those roads.

I would follow DriVers directions but to get out of Washington take route # 50 to # 301 through Delaware to avoid Baltimore and tunnels.
301 will run into #95 at the Del. bridge.
You also avoid Tolls. through Maryland.

I know this thread is a bit old, but I need some clarification. Actually, "help" would better describe what I need.

I am going from Southern Maryland to Liberty Campground in NJ for two days, then from there to Minuteman campground in Littleton MA.

From reading above (thanks for those posts!! and esp DriVer), I have determine (I think....) I am taking I95 to the NJ Turnpike then turn on to I78 East just past the Newark Airport. From there I have good directions to the campground in Jersey City.

Where I am confused is getting back on the road from the Liberty Campground. It looks like I can...
* Take I78 West out of Jersey City to the Garden State Parkway
then
* Take the Garden State Parkway to I287 East to across the Tappan Zee bridge to past White Plains to I684 North.
then
* I684 to I84 to I90 (Mass Turnpike)
then
* North on I495 to Littleton exit to the campground.


Does this look about right? I am using MS Streets 2010 and planning out this trip is the hardest I have yet to try...but I will prevail.

I can help you with the NJ portion.

Taking I78 West back to the GSP is a good route.

You can also take I78 West back to the NJ Turnpike North (western spur) to I80 West and then to the GSP North.

Be careful of when you time your exit from Jersey City as morning traffic on all those routes is heavy. You will be going against traffic on the west routes but with traffic going North.

Thanks, I noted your suggestion and that would work too. Now I have an option if there is an accident or something. I am planning to leave Jersey City around 10 or so...I hope the traffic is less at that time.

Kathy, when you get to Littleton, be sure to hit Kimballs Farm Ice Cream Stand (and everything that's there also - miniature golf, chip put, oudoor grilling, and the best ice cream around). I grew up in that area and live about an hour away - we still visit parents there. I stopped at the Littleton campground last year to check it out. Any questions about the area, just ask!
