West Yellowstone

Can anyone comment on Route 191 south from Bozeman to West Yellowstone? I'm looking for information on terrain/relief and general road quality. I tentatively plan a trip in October, driving a Winnebago Journey 36g.

Baggy, are you traveling on I90? Which direction are you coming from. If from the west use 287 off of I90 to West.

We traveled rt. 191 south to West Yellowstone a few weeks ago for the first time. Decent two lane road. If I recall, most surfaces were in good shape. A few grades but I don't recall anything greater than 4% to 6% and nothing extremely long. After 5,000 miles, the memory of every highway is fading

Perhaps some of the more local folks can add more detail. I'm told weather can be a concern that late in the season, but I'm sure you've got that figured already.

PS - close call.... had two Bighorn Sheep run just in front of the MH a few miles before West Yellowstone! That was really cool, but too close for comfort.

We always go that way. Good road and as indicated the climbs are not bad. We traveled it once in Jan and the road was clear.

By Oct, things are starting to shut down. They limit traffic due to the fall and spring migrations and the road conditions at that time. . Check to make sure what us open. For example, the KOA was shutting down when we were there in mid Sept.

We used that route both inbound and outbound last summer. I remember it as a nice road, moderate grades and some very nice scenery. There was a short section under construction but again, this was last year. We have a good friend in West Yellowstone now and he commented on how nice a road that was. He's in a 43' motorhome.

You should have no problem and will undoubtedly enjoy the drive.
