Westward on I-10

We are headed west in January from Jacksonville, Florida after we hit New Orleans. I have heard that I-10 is very rough in parts? Is this a true statement and if so, where and what alternate routes does one take?? Like to visit Lake Havesau before heading back East via I-40 to Franklin NC in late March.

All interstates have bad sections. I-10 where you are talking about is probably worst between Lafayette and Lake Charles. There are other bad areas, of course.

Just be sure to take I-12 past New Orleans, I-10 thru New Orleans is like a bomb zone.

Just to let you know, there is a nice rest area at exit 121 east of Lafayette that has separate parking for RV's & a good place to spend the night.

We just (today) drove I-10 from Jacksonville to Holt and I think it was some of the best interstate highway we have ever driven. Road surface was smooth with very few exceptions. Florida must have a thing for rest stops since there seemed to be one every 30 to 40 miles.

We will continue traveling on I 10 all the way to AZ in the next couple of months so will be curious to see how it is along the way.

We drove west-to-east the entire length of I10 about a year ago - the worst area we encountered was just east of Slidell, La where the concrete seams had us bouncing up and down like a galloping horse. Other than that it was pretty smooth the entire way, unlike I40 which is terrible through most of it's length!

I just came the opposite direction, from the west coast to Florida. The worst part of I-10 is in Louisiana....and expecially the I-12 bypass.
