When to cross into Canada?

We are planning a trip to Alaska in 2014 and have been trying to decide when to start the leg into Canada. Currently we are thinking mid May, and take 10 to 14 days from Seattle to Tok, AK. We will have been on the road from St. Louis for about 2 months by mid-May. This is a bucket list trip - we will head for south California and drive up the coast to Washington, trying to see as many lighthouses (and other sights) as we can on the first leg of the trip.

Any suggestions on a date to start for the North Country will be helpful.

We went about that time in 04. We got to mile marker "0" of the Alcan Hwy on June 1.
Have a great time.

Based on your timeline it sounds like we need to plan more time in Canada.

If you will cross to BC from WA take the crossing at Sumas, WA, less traffic. Easy access to TC 1 and north into BC.
