Where to start a one year trip ?

Well I live on the West Coast in Canada. Since traveling up here in Feb is pretty much a non starter, I would head for where travel is possible. Get to the warm places in Winter and then the cooler places in summer.

Welcome to iRV2. It matters not where you start or end. No matter what part of the USA one looks at there is quite a bit to see and do. For me, I do agree with the previous posts. Starting in February, in the east go south (Florida Keys?) and work north from there. If in the Midwest, south Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Arkansas will keep you busy for a month. In the south west, southern New Mexico west to the Pacific will keep you busy for several months. Good luck and I wish you many happy memories.

I might start south down the coast. San Diego is usually better than the weather they have had the last couple of days. You could follow I-10 and work your way east while the weather is still cold and then north as the weather warms up. We have done a lot of zigzagging around the country - but with an entire year, you will have plenty of time to wander.
These are some of the better trips we have had over the years - no schedule and itinerary. See something that looks interesting? side trip and if it looks good, you spend a day or a few there. Great idea!

Can't go wrong visiting our nation's National Parks. After visiting 38, we've found no disappointments. Weather considerations and taking the shortest routes to the largest concentrations of Parks worked well for us. They are all 'National Parks' for a reason.

Given that the OP is in Western Canada (HOW west? Vancouver?) I would make a beeline for Arizona or New Mexico (NM is probably better because AZ if chock full of snowbirds in FEB )

From there it is "What do you want to see in the USA?"

If you are indeed starting in Vancouver (In FEB) meandering down through Washington state and Oregon, (while not as pleasant in FEB as in AUG) is doable. CA below Eureka is not bad and the further south you go (below Santa Cruz) the weather should be fine.

AZ & NM in March/April can be pretty breezy - be forewarned & keep your awning in when not in use!

Anywhere South of TN past the Memorial day weekend (End of May) until Labor Day weekend (4 SEP) may be a bit too warm for your Canadian tastebuds (humid too! ) - those would be the best months to visit the Northern states and Eastern seaboard.

In September-January you can meander through the South (DO try to make it to Key West!) and in Mid-ish January, you can plot a course back to Canada.
