We are leaving soon for a 3 month trip to New England in our brand new Lance TT which we have had for 5 months and only slept in it one night in the backyard! All I have is an iPad for navigation, and we are convinced after these last posts that we want a portable GPS for the Dodge truck pull vehicle. So what brand? We love Amazon, so will prolly buy from them. Don’t need a billion bells and whistles, but has to be clear and loud enough for these old eyes and ears...

The newest version is the RV770. I like mine a lot so far.

Do you want Car, RV, or Truck version. The RV and Truck are more expensive but include features like entry of weight and height. If those aren't important you can save quite a bit with a Car version.

We need the version for the pull vehicle (Dodge Ram 1500).

The difference in the Car, Truck or RV version is what they support. The RV allows you to put in your height in case of low bridges. I believe Lance is a TT so the car version should do you fine. If you have any thoughts of upgrading to a MH in the near or far future get the RV version. You can probably use any Garmin if just for the car, just ge the biggest screen you can and make sure it has lifetime map updates, LMT is the keyword.

Unless you plan to stay on interstates, I'd suggest that you buy a GPS that will allow you to plan your route on Goggle Maps and import that route to the GPS. We prefer to travel on secondary roads and while our Magellan allows us the option to "avoid interstates" the result is not always optimal. Turn by turn is nice, but you need to be able to zoom out in a map view and see the big picture or you will be caught by surprizes. And the problem with using any device that relies on cell phone service is that it is of little use in the mountains or off the beaten path.

There are other brands Magellan and Tom-Tom(not sure they are stll in business). Garmin probably has 90% of the market. We have had Garmin since 1999 and are very satisfied with them. Never a problem except for one we decided to buy at Costco. Found out it was a "Costco" model and returned it after it stopped working. Would not recommend buying from Costco, Amazon is good.

660 or 770 are the current Garmin models, both are big enough for old eyes.

I have been happy with my Garmin Drive 50, but a Drive 60 would be nice.

Lifetime updates are a bonus. 50 has 5 inch screen vs 60 with a 6 inch screen.

I have had numerous Garmin units over the last 15 years and have the RV770 now. This has been the nicest so far.
Remember no GPS is perfect, they all have mapping and routing issues as the map data is never perfect. Keep the maps updated and you will have the fewest problems. Garmins can be purchased with lifetime map updates and they offer a program for your computer (BaseCamp) that is really useful for planning.

I have been happy with an I-Pad and Co-Pilot but I hear Co-Pilot has been bought out so am not sure about how everything will sort it's self out. No problem moving it from MH to pickup truck or car. Jim.
