Windy.com for Help with Routes

I recently discovered https://www.windy.com/ for help in which route to take on our travels/journeys. This website has lots of information and provides forecasts for over a week in the future (need to check daily if planning a week out as the weather does change). I look along my route for wind speeds several days out and see if I need to stay in place (because side winds are too strong/gusty), change my route, or will have tail or head winds. The map shows wind speed in knots, but you can go to setting and change to MPH.

Maybe you've all know about this website and I'm just late to the game, but thought I'd share as I find it useful in trip planning.

Thanks for the link. I just loaded the app on my phone. We got caught in some HEAVY winds on our last trip so if this is somewhat accurate, it'll really help out in deciding whether to hunker down or head out on the road

The phone app is okay, but you can see a lot more of the region if you look on your laptop or larger screen. On my current trek back north I was going to delay a day as wind in NE Colorado was 25-35 gusting 50 out of the MW, however, I now see where it has changed and if I pass through the region early enough (both the app and the webpage show hour by hour forecasts), I'll miss the strong winds. Of course that could change as well over the next couple of days. I also see where I'll have tail winds for close to a couple of hundred miles in Texas ... that is always nice and hardly ever happens!! We'll see how correct it is over the next 2 to 3 days!

Windy is really cool. It ties together several important sources of info on one screen.

Please get back to us on the app. I'd like to know how accurate it is.
Thank you.

App sounds nice but in real world what use? Weather changes frequently and so does wind direction.
Just spent 2 days driving across Ok, Tx, and into N.Mex. on I 40. Two solid days and nights of 30 to 50 mph gusts. Wind direction changed so quickly from side to front to other side that any app would be useless. Unfortunately, had to drive in it and continue due to unchangeable reservations at G Canyon, Zion, Bryce, Arches. All booked solid and no changes to our could be made.
Thankfully quiet now for rest of trip to G. Canyon area.

Agree not very helpful if you have reservations that can't be changed. However, if you aren't in a hurry, I find the app useful on perhaps what route to take or just stay in place for another day. I start looking at wind/weather patterns about a week out which gives me an idea of fronts moving across the country and the high (clockwise winds) and low (counter clockwise winds) pressure centers ... all change as you get closer to actual travel date ... perhaps I have too much time on my hands!

Agree with milehgcty, it's another tool to help in planning whether to travel or hunker down for an extra day or 2.

Thank you!

I had not heard of this app - have it downloaded now though
We ran into a bad wind storm on One of our first trips- not fun.. got off road and hunkered down. But scary. Learning as we go and appreciate all the tips we learn from others sharing
