Winter drive to Colorado

We were thinking about a late December drive to Cortez, CO. Anybody drive Hwy's 491/160 N from I-40 in Gallup NM in winter conditions. We're coming from FL in a 40' MH with toad. We haven't been on icy roads with our MH and were wondering how those Hwy's are when icy. Thanks GLE

Best I can say is treacherous. I40 frequently gets closed during winter weather events. Usually around Grants, sometimes as far as Albuquerque all the way past the state line. In good weather, not a bad drive. On ice or snow, especially with a toad, horrible,

491 north of I-40 has gentle grades through to Cortez, CO but it does ice up in winter. It is also patrolled by the Navajo Tribal Police so you have two good reasons to watch your speed.
If it is at all icy, I would wait until the sun melts it off.
Drive safely. Have fun!

491 to 160 used to be numbered 666, if that means anything. LOL

Suggest you become familiar with Colorado "Chain Law" as applied to all roads. https://www.codot.gov/news/2011news/...rivers-on-i-70
