Wolf Creek Pass Construction Delays

Just a heads up for anyone planning to use US160 across southern CO in the next month or so. There is a major road resurfacing project going on near Wolf Creek Pass and they currently have the east side of the pass down to one lane at 3 different spots, with flag men holding up traffic for 15 mins while a mile long line of vehicles passes through one direction, then the other. Maybe every day won't be as bad as today, but it took me 2 hrs to get from South Fork to Pagosa for a lunch date (its usually a 45 min drive; 35 on the Harley).
If you're already in the area, the alternate is a long way around. But if you're far enough away and just transiting CO, there are other alternate routes, depending on your destination.
They usually make the contractor wait till late summer to start these major resurfacing jobs, but this one was allowed to start right as the summer tourist traffic peaks. Looks like this is an ongoing major project that will be there for a month or two or three.

Come up through New Mexico on Hwy 84 into Pagosa Springs - a beautiful drive. Then west on 160 to Durango.

From Durango you could take Hwy 550 north (steep) or go over to Cortez (Mesa Verde Nat'l Park) and take 145 north (not as steep) to 550 north (the easy part of 550) to Hwy 50 east and north a short distance on 285 to 24 east into Colorado Springs. . . another beautiful drive to see more of Colorado and you'll avoid Wolf Creek Pass.
