Thanks for all the responses. You pretty much sum up how we feel. Even though we have driven there in a car it has been several years, but our friends keep bugging us to go. I don't really feel it is as safe as years ago, but I didn't want to rule it out if I was being over cautious. I too believe there is way too much to see here in the US that we don't have to be spending time in Mexico.

If you do a Google Earth fly-over of the Puerto Penasco area of Mexico you'll be amazed at the number of large RV's and 5vers parked along the coast.

I say go at your own risk and it would be better if traveling with other RVer's.

You might want to ask this on a Mexican forum such as RV.net for answers from folks who have actually driven there rather than from those who haven't and just repeat 'stories'. Many, many RVers go there. The RV parks are full. If you're the least bit concerned, talk to folks in line who are about ready to cross and ask if you could hook up with them for some of the drive to keep you company. There will always be people heading down and returning at the same time you would.

I start sweating at about Van Horn on I-10 [going west] and don't stop until Las Cruces... or even Deming! We even turn our cell phones off from where I-20 merges with I-10 and don't turn them back on until we get to Las Cruces – if you're not careful, a call could get passed to a Mexican cell tower and, POOF!, not only are you "roaming," but you're making an "international call"... At $3 a minute!

I'm a total basket case on I-8... Fortunately, we don't visit Sandy Eggo as often as we do other parts of California.

My parents took a tour with the Foretravel owners some years ago. Oncoming truck damaged their MH. Of course the police "determined" that it was their fault even though my father had run off the shoulder onto the dirt to avoid the sideswipe.
I wouldn't even drive a car down there.

We have been travelling in Our RV to Mexico every Winter since 1999/2000! We are currently near the Sleepy Village of La Manzanilla, about 200 Km South of Puerto Vallarta.

We have also visited the Baja several times,and enjoyed every moment!

Concerns about Safety ,of course ,but no more or less than travelling by RV anywhere else!

Are there bad guys around every corner? Of course NOT!

It always amazes Me the rhetoric that always builds around these Forums !

So many Uninformed people quoting this Story or That!

We have travelled extensively throughout the World. Mexico is by far one of the Best Places on the Planet to visit in an RV!

Turn the "INTERNATIONAL ROAMING" feature of your phone off and you will not have an unexpected charge although you may get a warning from your carrier

As a younger man, I spent many wild and crazy weekends in Ensenada, and more recently spent a few week-long vacations in Zihuatanejo. A bunch of us even ran motorcycles from LA to La Paz (Baja) and back just for the fun of it. I loved every trip. The scenery was gorgeous, the locals were friendly and accommodating, and best of all... the price was right

But that was then.

Today, I can think of at least a dozen places I wouldn't drive an RV inside the U.S., let alone Mexico. I'd spend the whole trip wondering who's driving behind me and why. It just wouldn't be worth it.

I might consider one of those pre-planned RV caravans to Mexico... might. There's at least half a dozen that run a few times a year, and that's a good thing - safety in numbers.

Even better, the authorities know you're coming and they know you're headed to a specific location to spend mucho dinero - they don't wanna mess up a good thing. That means there's little reason for them to hijack... uh... I mean... inspect you or your rig.
