Retired yesterday!
Leaving from boston dec 27 heading to florida keys. Reservations already made at Jolly Roger. How far south do I need to get to find a campground open? I would like to do some interesting things on the way down if you have suggestions please do. I would also like to know about a good CG near the Everglades.

Our first stop is Jonestown/Lickdale, PA KOA at the junction of I/81 and I/78 just above Harrisburg.

For the southern section of the Everglades, there are two campgrounds. Long Pine Key is nice. It is quite woodsy, but has no hookups. Flamingo is a little more open, but has electric hookups. Near by, commercial camping around Homestead are Goldcoaster Mobile Home and RV Resort| A Campground near Florida City Florida, Southern Comfort RV Resort| A Campground near Florida City Florida , and http://http://www.allstays.com/Campg...ails/17320.htm . I don't know anything about any of them.

There are no campgrounds in the northern section of thr Everglades, but Big Cypress National Preserve is adjacent, and has several. The two largest are Midway and Monument Lake. Both are on small lakes. Midway has electric hookups. Monument lake does not. There are two nearby commercial campgrounds in Everglades City and Chokoloskee. Both are rather expensive and have rather small sites really crammed together. At Ochopee, http://http://www.allstays.com/Campg...ails/35056.htm is less expensive and less crammed together. They also have a rather nice native animal zoo.

I have spent considerable time in each of Long Pine Key, Flamingo, Midway, and Monument Lake. All of them have nice sized site with decent space between them. This January, we will be headed for Midway and Flamingo. Monument Lake and Long Pine Key are closer to the activities that we look for, but I prefer to have electricity without having to run my generator.

We are going to Jolly Roger too! We arrive on the 18th of January for a month. I think that we are going to be in space #91 in the new section. Look us up if you are still there then.
