Last I heard, the gate opened for a couple days, but a bad avalance closed it back again. The slide may have damaged the road, so they're not saying when it will reopen.

For the poster going in the south gate tommorrow, please report back on conditions. We're heading that way soon, and need to get to Bridge Bay cg.

According to the Idaho Falls, ID newspaper today (5/18), the East entrance to YSNP will open today! The avalanche at Sylvan pass has been cleared.
“Starting today, limited travel will be allowed through Sylvan Pass between 6 AM and 10 AM. Visitors headed westbound into the park should leave Cody no later than 8:30 AM. Travelers headed east out of the park toward Pahaska Tepee and Cody must be across Fishing Bridge by 9:30 AM.”
Also for anybody who is interested, Hwy 26 between Alpine, WY and Hoback Junction is closed (5/16) due to a 300 ft. wide x 800 ft. high mud slide. The highway dept. said that it is saturated with snow melt and still moving, they weren’t going to start removing it until it stops moving by itself. To get between ID and WY (Jackson) you have to go over Teton Pass (10% up/down for 5 miles each side to Victor, ID then to Swan Valley, or North at Victor through Driggs to Sugar City and Rexburg.
May you have following seas and fair winds!

From the Glacier website:

Currently 21.0 miles of the Going-to-the-Sun Road are open for travel.
Visitors can drive 15.5 miles from the West Entrance to Avalanche, and 5.5 miles from the St. Mary Entrance to Rising Sun.

The section of the road between Avalanche and Rising Sun is closed due to plowing. The hiker-biker closure is at Logan Creek Pit Toilets on the west and St. Mary Falls on the east, but is subject to change based on avalanche conditions. Travel into areas with known avalanche slide paths is not advised.

It also says Many Glacier Road is open

Hey alageezer....roads were clear and dry all the way from Tetons to Grant and on to West Yell. Have not been up the east side yet.

Do check road conditions on the phone as there are some developing problems here and there. There is a snow ten to twelve feet high alongside the roads, but pavement is clear.

Twomed,
Thanks for the response. We have reservations at Bridge Bay for Fri and Sat. Will probably call on Wednesday or so in case we need to cxl.

Wife and I have been thru there several times, but this is GD's first trip. Thinking of going for it regardless of conditions, just for the adventure of it all, something she'll never forget.
