Yellowstone east with Sturgis traffic, where else to go
Planned on leaving YS Aug 1 staying around Cody a few days then east to Rapid City sites but Sturgis Bike week killed that idea!
So from Cody what choices do I have to visit other great attractions for about 10 days in that general area (SD) before heading all the way back east

The northwoods of Minnesota and Wisconsin ... the start of the Mississippi river at Lake Itasca and the light houses along the north shore of Lake Superior in MN ... and the waterfalls of northern Wisconsin .... Door County in Wisconsin ... Soo Locks, Mackinac Island and Pictured Rocks lakeshore in Michigan.
That should get you started ...

I am traveling west around the same time. I spent the day looking at maps and decided pretty much on what Skigramps suggested. And for the same reason of avoiding Sturgis traffic.
I will be traveling westward planning to take US 2 from Soos in the UP of MI all the way thru Wisc & Minnesota to Rt 191 in Montana then south to W. Yellowstone.
I have a 20 year old 35' class A, no toad. I am a woman traveling alone. It looks like RT 2 has many small towns, but I am worried about long desolate stretches and lack of cell service in case I have any mechanical issues. Anyone familiar with any sections of this route? Suggestions?

Hwy 2 as you say has many small towns. We like to travel the smaller roads too. Lots of oil construction that way also. We found that to be very interesting.
Hwy 2 will take you to Glacier also. Maybe check that out then South to Yellowstone. Going across 2 you will miss all the Cycle traffic.
As to phone service I don't remember that being an issue. We have Verizon service.

Thanks Russell
I am glad to be going through the oil patch. I am a long time domestic energy advocate.

We plan to be at the Soo in a couple days. Picking up a New RV in Elkhart today then go North for a couple days. Do you know the name of the RV park that is right by the locks where you can watch the ships go thru from the campgrounds? Thanks Russell
