the bass lake national forest service area is east of oakhurst. there are several no hookup cg's there. ''forks'' cg is the only one we found that had some spaces for 35'-40' rv's. they were full last summer when we were there on a scouting trip on the way back south from yosemite driving our toad.
i would not have left my rv at forks cg all day unattended while on day trips to yosemite.
chukchansi has 24 hour security and the park of the sierras is gated and is a very secure cg.
ims there are several gravel roads in the bass lake area.
there are some commercial cg's in the oakhurst area. i don't know how secure they are.

We spent a week at Coarsegold Koa. Rustic but very quiet and friendly. Get reservations now if possible. This is a few miles from the entrance to Yosemite but a nice drive. If you like Mexican food look for El Cids right on the highway on the way to the park.

I did a quick streets and trips print showing the way from Fresno. If you decide to come from the North let me know and I have a great route for that.

Thanks for all the help and good info. We are gonna try to leave earlier so as to have more time....for more fun.

As for the Rubicon trail, I know that as of last week they have 11 ft drifts still there. I will catch it later, maybe next year.

If I came across as being upset, please forgive me as that wasn't the intent. It was more tongue in cheek as I'd tried to get the info a couple months ago. I got some, but not nearly as that which you included in your earlier post. I'm sure it will help many others who want to go to Yosemite. Again, my apologies if I came across wrong.

We live in Southern California so typically go up that way via route 395 which is east of the Sierras. When visiting Yosomite we have stayed at the Mono Vista RV Park in Lee Vining and take day trips into the park. Just drove by there a few days ago and the Hwy 120 into the park was closed, although all of the other passes thru the Sierras were opn.

We have stayed there too and it is a nice park. If you are getting to YNP in the beginning of July, Tioga might be open. It is a drive to the valley from Lee Vining, but you will travel through some of the prettiest part of the park.... Tuolumne Meadows. Saddlebag Lake is a good side trip with great fishing, better scenery, and good tasting home made pie after hiking around at 10K feet plus

The Tioga Road will open on Saturday, June 18, 2011, at 8 am. There will be several no-stopping zones and visitors should be aware that hiking opportunities are extremely limited due to snow and dangerous creek crossings. No services will be available along the road.
