Younstown OH to Quartzsite

Going next fall for the winter. Was doing a preliminary route and it takes me off of I40 at Holbrook on to RT 77-377-277-260-87 Into Mesa.

I've driven the semi across the 90-94 corridor to Washington many times so while mountains don't worry me, I really don't want to beat on the truck anymore than necessary.

We travel from Mesa to Newton Falls and back yearly in a diesel pusher with a toad, that's the way we go. We also bypass St. Louis on 270 and 255 (I think). As well we take I 64 from St. Louis to Louisville and then I 71 through Cincinnati and Columbus. Not that much further than I 70, to me I 70 through Illinois and Indiana is a rough road. Safe travels.

Since you're traveling in the Fall this route is basically good. Dec-Feb you 'could have snow' but minimal.

At Holbrook you'd take 377 into Heber then 260 west to Payson then 87 into Mesa. From Payson you'll have a multiple lane downhill but many RVers drive this whole route to and from their cool summer destinations along 260. It's very doable with a RV. Downshift before you start heading down... not midway.

Coming into Mesa pick up 202 (Red Mountain Hwy) taking you to I-10 and on to Quartzsite. Don't get into Mesa at morning/evening commuting time.

Have you ever been to Quartzsite? You state you're planning on staying the winter. I'd recommend a backup plan just in case it's not for you.

If you prefer to keep it simple and stick to minimum two-lane interstates the whole way then stay on 40 to Flagstaff, catch I-17 to Phoenix, and then I-10 to Quartzsite.
