Zion & Grand Canyon North Rim
I'm debating using Hy 9 from Zion N.P. to Hy 89 and onto the North Rim or Hy 59 to Hy 89. The map shows a lot of switchbacks on 9 and my wife isn't too comfortable with that. Anyone have any insight of this area?

You don't say what size rig you have, however, we just stayed in Kanab and took hwy 9 through Zion with our toad.
Hwy 9 through Zion is not a place I would take my coach. Not that it is not possible but I don't think it would be a fun experience. Must purchase an oversized vehicle pass for one way through the tunnels. My DW would totally freak out with the Motorhome, beautiful drive with the toad.

Welcome to IRV2!
Here's some information on highway 9, specifically the tunnel on the east side of Zion.
The Zion-Mount Carmel Tunnel - Zion National Park (U.S. National Park Service)
Big motorhomes pass through it without a problem - just stay in the center of the road as you pass through while traffic is stopped for you to pass through alone. Once through, highway 9 over to 89, then south to the North Rim is relatively easy, with just a few twisty sections until you get to the North Rim. We were just there on the 15th of May, opening day. Be sure to get reservations for the North Rim camp ground well ahead of time if you intend to stay there. It's a busy place, although far less crowded than the south rim. Commercial campgrounds are available outside the park as well.
Hope that helps!

Hwy 59 into Fredonia, AZ is a very good route for RVers. No big climbs involved. I think your wife would like this one as opposed to Hwy 9. Have a great trip.

I agree, like I said it's not that you can't do it but if you have a nervous navigator, take the easy route.
