1/2 Chucking problem-solved!

First time out with a new to us 1993 Hitchhiker was terrible. About every 10 yards or so the trailer would cause you to be 'tossed' forward in the seat, very similar to tapping the brakes. Gently but still very uncomfortable. I tried everything I could think of. Started by disconnecting the trailer cord, no help. Tried swapping the spare onto each position thinking maybe the new tires was the problem-no joy. Pulled a couple of hubs, convinced myself the bearings looked original, one felt gritty, the other one loose, so started replacing all of them and discovered a broken spring in one hub, the one that is near the adjuster. Finally relief!
Departing tomorrow for a 20 mile, two day trip, then this weekend on a 55 mile trip for the weekend, and a who knows how long a trip the middle of next month. Now if I can only wean the diesel truck from fuel......

Welcome aboard!! Sorry to hear of your troubles first time out. At least you found the problem so you can rest easy. It is always nice to know that the bearings are good and well lubed and you don't have to worry about them. Now all you have to do is enjoy the next trip.
