2012 Montana: Power Awning Won't Retract

2012 Keystone Montana 3582RL

Power awning extended fine in March, now it won't retract. No motor noise, etc. Nothing. Can't find a C/B or fuse for it.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Ed

If it's the same as ours, the wire is directly behind a black plastic 2"x18" cover panel inside of the front 'leg' of the awning. This panel slips right out (ours came out by itself on I-81 in VA and needed to be retrieved with 80 mph traffic). There may be a crimp connector that can be disassembled behind that panel. If yours is so equipped, try a direct wire connection and see if the motor works. Now, with that said, almost all of the 12VDC fuses should be in the distribution box along with the 120VAC breakers. While they are tough to remove, you can check each of them by pulling them out with a pair of needle nose pliers, being very careful not to short to another or to ground (also remove any finger rings if you use those pliers)

Had a similar issue. Removed the switch from the wall to find one of the connections came disconnected. Plugged it back onto the switch and good to go.

Also, my carefree awning has two terminals on the top of the awning motor (came with a cable set) that you can connect to a 12v-24v drill battery so you can operate the awning motor independent from the trailer battery. If your trailer has a similar feature then you can further debug to see if it is a power problem or a motor problem.

Thanks, I'll try these suggestions.

The 2X4 solution doesn't seem at all strange; we have ancient British cars...

.....which means you are probably intimately acquainted with the 'Prince of Darkness', Lucas. Dang but I hated working on those cars back in the day when I did it for a living.

Let us know what worked with your awning as many of us have those dratted power gadgets too.
