2013 f150

Just curious as to what people think about pulling 5ers with half tons. I have a bumper mount now and am in the market for a better floor plan for our growing family. Have found a great deal on a 2011 puma 29bhss. I believe hitch weight is around 1100lbs and loaded trailer is around 10800lbs. I have a f150 with e rated tires and air bags. Just wondering what people's thoughts are. I know there is a lot of experienced people on here. Thanks again for your time. Also which is a good hitch, would like to keep my bed as clean as possible.

What does the Owner's manual say? That is the real question. It is your warranty to bust. IMHO

BTW, welcome to the Forum. You will get many "opinions" on this matter.

Weigh your truck ready to camp. Then weight it empty. That's the amount you have for payload. 99% of the 1/2 tons out there towing 5'ers are either maxed out or over one of their ratings. If you don't have Max Tow on yours then it's highly unlikely you'll have enough payload.

BTW 10,800lbs x 20%(pin) is 2160lbs. The only F150 to have enough payload for that weight is the HD (heavy duty) model. Even then by the time you add passengers and other gear in the truck you'll likely be over the trucks GVW.

JMHO but I'd look at longer TT's. Most of the time TT's are cheaper than 5'ers.

What size motor? I pulled a 9000 pound 5er with a 2010 f150. I was about 800 pounds over payload and I still had lots of suspension left. Ford is built to tow and haul, unlike Chevy and dodge, put them 800 over payload and their suspension will be maxed out frame on the stops, lol! If you got the 5.0 will struggle if you have hills, 3.5 eco will get about 7mpg but won't struggle, if you plan on towing far or often I'd get a f350 but a couple hundred miles a few times a year you'd be fine. 5ers pull a million times nicer than tts, no sway at all.

This forum has been very helpful for us as we are newbys and are pulling a light 5 wheel with a 2003, F150, 4x4 with tow pkg. so far our trips have been good but, I really advise investigating it thoroughly. We thought we were safe but as we get ready to do some real cross country travel, we decided to upgrade. There is a lot of good information in here and these people have the experience to backup what you hear on the outside. Good travel.
