I have a srw 3500 trl 13500 loaded doesn't sway go slow and l agree that heavy trls should have DRW but if you don't need it why buy it ? 2 more tires to buy ,crappy parking options, heavier ,worse fuel mileage, lousy traction in snow , your afraid to let your wife drive it (she might forget those fenders at Wally world ) just an example that negatives can be found on any truck . I drove for my own rig for 35 yrs over 3000,000 miles and have never seen a Srw fiver flipped in a ditch or any where else . Oh ! that dual tire thing watch what a steel belted radial does to that fiber glass fender. Not a pretty sight .

I choose a SRW 4x4 because I prefer heavier front end to my truck. Most SRW trucks can tow my choice of 5th wheel. No way I will ever need a heavier unit then our 39ft 5th wheel.
I did have a rear flat with no incident and broke all the studs on one rear tire with no damage other then new studs and new brake hub.
But I do not want to have a front tire failure with wimpy front tires on a duelly.

I replaced an 09 Dodge 2500 with a 14 DRW 3500 last Spring. Love towing with my DRW (very stable in cross winds and on curves). Love the look of the rear of tge DRW (looks enormous next to average size trucks). I do NOT love the fact that I have to hand wash it (won't fit in the drive thru car wash), and boy do those fenders collect road grime. I also miss drive-thru fast food. Oh well, that's compromise.

No, it's not the same engine that had all the issues in semis.

I drive the speed limit, but if you are towing heavy maybe you should drive slower no matter how many tires you have.

I guess you have not traveled I-10 along the Palm Springs area? I think Ford has the only fiberglass fender?

The good FARRRR out weighs the bad! The hips are just something you do get used to. My wife drives ours whenever I am not available to be her Chauffeur.

How's that a negative? That alone is reason to buy a DRW truck😂

Our front end is 6000 lbs.

Yep, my front GAWR is identical to SRW. The rear GAWR is 2750 pounds more. All six tires match, with E ratings in excess of 3600 pounds each.

Now, breaking all 8 studs at once might make me think I need to check my lug nut torque a little more often. Crazy stuff happens, but rarely without cause or warning.

I agree, one should own what works for them. Compare apples to apples and make the decision.

I bought a DRW because I accidentally found a nice used one for a good price. I am comforted by the fact that I tow well within its limits, and I think it works for me. Oh, and mine might not be better, but it's definitely bigger.

Ha!

I had a 2006 Cummins that I ordered from the factory. The next truck was a 2011 Powerstroke that was also ordered from the factory. I just didn't "love" driving the Ford like I did the Ram. I've driven power strokes and one duramax for years as my company issued me a truck, but the best was a 2008 Powerstroke, and besides some minor issues boy was that a good truck. So when the 6.7 Scorpion came out I got all excited and ordered one. Turns out the Lariat just wasn't that nice, at least not to me. Looking at trucks this time around I decided to go with Ram again. Just had things that were more appealing to me for the 2015 offerings.

You'll be happy with any of them as long as it has what's important to you.

I want to thank everyone who replied. I have decided on a 2016 GMC Denali 3500HD/ with Durimax engine/dullie/ 2 wd. It's 5th wheel posted towing cap is 23,200. It comes with exhaust brake. Is that enough or should I add the intregrated trailer braking system The unit I have ordered is a 2016 Forest River Sandpiper 355RE with a loaded weight of 15,500.
