A good friend of mine just downsized from a 38' 5ver to a small TT.. to each his own I guess... But I appreciate your perspective a lot: I may be new to rv'ing and investigating a first purchase, but I've observed a lot of others -- and I'd rather skip your first three steps and head straight for the 36' 5ver. What I didn't mention in my previous post was that my analysis of all the camp sites in the state parks includes all those without full hookups and therefore are intended for the small TTs only. so, as DW and I look at the options, we find several options in the 36' 5ver category that meet the requirements emerging in our research. For example, I'd like to stand up in the shower without looking out onto the roof, and I'd prefer that the covers stay on the bed when I stretch out my long legs.

For some, the camping vehicle is just portable sleeping quarters in the mountains; For others, the floor plan is a large part of the camping experience. we are definitely in the latter category.

Very sorry that I am seemingly argumentative--not sure which state parks you are referring to. Down here in TX, there are lots of parks with lots of space; in CO, same deal. We have camped for years in state/natl forest cgs without hookups and have found them to have plenty of room
I completely agree with the floor plan being part of the camping experience--sounds like you may be kind of tall, which is a problem in itself to solve without $$$. Since I am vertically challenged, every trailer I have ever had, came with lots of headroom.
If my first purchase had been a fiver, don't know how that would have worked out.

It is what it measures. The model number does not define the exterior length.
