They're functional and convenient. Kinda like those Gatorback tailgates.

Your timing with the post couldn't have been better! I just got a sale paper from Camping World today and I bet you can't guess what they have on sale at $20.00 off. Now thanks to your post I'm out $60.00. When it arrives could you send the kids up to help install it?
That's what camping is about--spending quality time with the wife and kids and getting them involved. The pictures look like you didn't have to twist their arms to get their help.
Once again, thanks for the great post!

Alright shortlance, ya made me dig it out of the trash can and look. Took me three tries to find it by looking at the 20% off items. It's 25% off in the Phoenix area. Interesting...

Too cool!! Post a pic when you get it done!

I didn't have to twist the kids' arms at all. The older they get, the more helpful they are...and the more I realize I need their help...because I'm getting older too.

You're right--it's 25% off. My fingers didn't type what my brain told them to do the first time.

Did the factory one below the bumper stop working after you did this?

I moved the factory one to the side. Didn't think I would ever need it there.

I hadn't posted about it cuz I was running out to get it !!!
HA-Ha, I hate that store being just 10 minutes from the house....
(And the wife knowing where it is )

this time it's for me though !
just got back from picking the pigtail up for $59.99 -
5th Wheel Wiring Kits - Product - Camping World
they had 2 available for the dodges, and 2 available for the chevy/ford/etc... so glad I made it in time !

Baron, As far as your step though ---
I did get one for the driver side in FRONT of the tire so I can reach the front of the bed easier,
but the ferds have the step built into the tailgate, so we don't need no stinkin back step

on edit - just noticed the install is more than the item itself ! $67

CW is also 10 minutes from me, but I try not to pay their gouging prices if I don't have to. There is a camper/trailer dealer a little further away, and they have a lot more accessories and replacement parts in their "Country Store".

When I made my extension cable, I bought a connector and the cable there. Their already made up ones were something like $50. I wanted 5' of cable and there was 7 left on the reel. He sold me the 7' for the price of 5. Like I told him: "What are you gonna do with 2' of cable."

I solved the step problem when I had a Ranger bass boat. Dodge didn't make a stepside, so I made my own. I could then launch my boat without getting wet.

Tailgate damper in action

OK, so when a buddy of mine talked about how well his new tailgate damper kept his tailgate from slamming down, I made a visit to O'Reilly Auto Parts and picked one up. Install took about 15 minutes with help from my trusty assistants (a.k.a. kids; free labor)

Here's a video of how well it controls the downward motion (Please note: this mod does NOT aid in lifting the tailgate).

hope yours last better than mine did but mine was on a ford so guess their little odd connector is different for yours...

Baron37075,
Looks good. Just as a fyi, if you mix up some water and a little dish soap in a spray bottle one of your helpers can spray the hole saw with the mixture. It works good, we use it for reciprocal saws in vehicle rescue. Both cools and lubes the blade/saw (hole not electrical unit).
