5th Wheel Grease
My new Curt 24K 5th wheel calls for Black Graphite Grease. Any suggestions on a good brand and where to get it?

Maybe the instructions said to use Graphite as a lubricant? Then parts are lubricated but without the "grease" which is messy and attracts dirt, which then causes binding and wear, unless you add more grease. You can buy graphite spray, which can be applied before use to lube things up.

I agree with the mess and attracting grit comment. I use a lube-plate and thoroughly clean those parts and reapply a spray white lithium grease (Liquid Wrench Co.) to the kingpin and jaws on each pull. Takes 4 min.
Frequently I disassemble the hitch head and clean and re-lube the pivots with lithium grease. Doesn't take 30 min.
Happy trails.

I bought it at Blains Farm and Fleet. It is a grease with graphite in it. Comes in a tube and fits in any grease gun.

I use the Lube plate as well but I use a spray silicon on both sides routinely. It also repels any water that causes surface rust.

Problem is, this is still grease, whereas if you where to use graphite spray, it dries, thus nothing will adhere to it like grease, but the graphite provides lubricant. But anything is better than nothing!

I don't think that's for the hitch plate - that would be a teflon or similar plate. The grease they're referring to is for the cams and jaws. Those don't need anything high temp or special as they are what gets moved for locking and unlocking the king pin. I've a Curt 20k with three zerks, and grease them twice a year or so, but just with regular stuff, not graphite.

Yeah the Curt manual called for Black Graphite Grease for the moving parts or White Lithium Grease if in cold climates. I guess any grease will do. I use a lube plate so don't need anything on the hitch plate itself, just the metal to metal moving parts.

Curt says use high pressure grease or white lithium for cold weather. I'm using white lithium. Good as a general rule.
