5th wheel hitch

I purchased a new truck and the 5th wheel now sits with the front high. It was nice and level on the old truck.

I plan on lower the hitch but do not know if I have to torque the bolts when I put them back or just good and tight.

Any suggestions?

Thanks
Bill

I just raised the height on my Pullrite Super 5th and the specified torque was 75 ft/lbs, but yours may be different, I would check the owners manual. Also, make sure you will still have enough bed rail clearance after you change the height, you want a minimum of 6". What's the new truck?

Welcome to the forum.
Sorry to hear you're having problems. It is very common for owners to have similar problems with the newer model pick-ups, although they're more capable they sit higher. As others have and will note there are various strategies to tackle this dilemma with differing outcomes.
It's often very helpful to list the equipment you're dealing with as some may have direct experience with similar brands and models.
Most mfrs will list a spec. torque. but bet it will be pretty tight, as you can get it with common hand tools and perhaps a cheater. Owners / installation manuals can often be found online.
Best of luck.

If you can find the torque setting I would use it. Otherwise I would make them good and tight And check them once in awhile.

Suggest that if you move the hitch location, at the minimum, retorque. I would replace all the bolts with G8 and new G8 washers.
Depending on the age of the bolts and whether there was any previous movement of them, they should be replaced. Split washers crush on the first use and may not grab correctly again. Overkill? Probably...but just to be sure...
