As long as you're quoting part of what Carlisle says about ST tires, you might as well mention the rest...

I run the Roadmaster RM160 on my alfa 5er also, they are a trailer approved tire that is used on commercial lowboys and readily available at most truck tire dealers. They are also over $100 a tire less than the 16" LR G goodyear G614's.

As to smillers, I suppose a pair of new Goodyear marathons loosing the tread, because of poor workmanship i.e. china bombs doesn't count, and yes they were within weight limits and were properly inflated. first one had less than 1000 miles, the second about 1800 miles. not a blowout on the second, had a tread separation completely around the tire, caught it at a rest stop. And after loosing a G614 on my current trailer, tire temperature was 142*, checked about 20 miles before tread departed the casing, you couldn't give me another Goodyear tire.

To the OP, by all means if you don't want to use the Michelin XPS, I run the B F Goodrich commercial LT,s on my pick up and get good mileage with no problems, and 80% of my mileage is with the trailer on and my GVW is at the trucks max. Don't get the traction ones, but the all season ones for trailer use.

If you have had good service out of the tires you have had then replace them with the same brand and size.

No, I never said that. The Goodyear Marathons have a poor track record and I'd stay away from them. But that doesn't mean every ST tire, or every tire made in China, or every tire model that starts with 'M', etc. are bad. It just means that Goodyear Marathons are bad.

I agree with you on that one smiller, I have Roadmaster tires on my 5er, they are made in China, they have Engineered by Cooper Tire on the sidewall. I have run this brand on my 10 wheelers for a number of years with very good results. I was not blasting all tires from China, but most do have problems. I know you can't give me a Goodyear tire of any kind right now, I will buy other brands.

I upgraded to the Cooper RM160 17.5's on my 22000# (17k on the axles) racing/living quarters trailer and couldn't be happier. Two seasons and 20000 miles later and zero tire issues, and minimal tread wear. I would have gone through about ten 15" Marathons in that time frame based on past seasons. Yes I know I was on the ragged edge of the wight rating on the 15's, and I went as far to overkill as I could, but I was tired of changing tires. The Coopers are 4805# rated load range H, but with the non hub centric 7000# axles that particular 17.5 Alcoa wheel is only rated to 3420# due to the lug centric setup. The identical Alcoa wheel on a hub centric 8000# axle and 5/8" studs is rated to the same 4805# as the tire. I'm nowhere near the wheel rating, so that was not a concern. $3000 for 7 wheels and 7 tires and I am well on the way to paying for them in savings. I wouldn't run anything else on a really heavy trailer.

My issue of the day, the reason I am trolling the tire threads, is I bought a 36' Raptor toy hauler and want to replace the tires before I hit the road. It has triple 6 lug axles under it now and I really don't want to change the axles at this point. So, I can't go to 17.5s (nobody makes a 6 lug 17.5 wheel for obvious reasons) but I am definitley upgrading to 16". It has 225/75/15 on it now, and I would have room for a 235/80/16, but I think I would really be pushing it to go to a 235/85/16, getting pretty close to the floor. The best of the 235/80/16 choices is probably the Marathon, despite my previous trouble, because the weight rating would be far over my actual weight on this rig. The only other 16" sizes I could find were a 225/75/16 LT tire, but those are only 2680# rated with an E rating so I'm not gaining anything there, or a 245/75/16 which is good height wise, but I am worried about the wider tread being harder on everything because it won't skid as easily to turn.

Any thoughts? Anybody gone all the way from a 225/75/15 to a 235/85/16 on a Raptor without any clearance issues? I know some models of the same brand came with 16", but I don't know if they sat a little higher for more tire clearance, or if that part is pretty standard. Help?

Not true. He will likely need at the most 85psi to properly inflate the G tires.

They make weight/inflation charts for every tire out there. I went from GY E to GY G's on a 02 Avion Platinum. I ran 85psi for 5 years and had perfect tread wear with many thousands of miles.

Talk to GY Tech Support. They will tell you when upping load range to use the weight/inflation chart and add 5psi. Use your heaviest tire to calculate air pressure.

Don't blindly think you have to air to MAX on the tires sidewall! That is usually the case since most RV makers barely put enough tire under their rigs.

After much research and recommendation from users here and on Woodall's I would either go with Michelin XPS or Goodyear G614. I choose Goodyear G614 because I wanted the extra carry weight of the G614 which is made in America.

Good call!

I have ran two sets of GY G's for thousands of miles without even a flat. And have switched to GY H with 17.5" Alcoas for an extra safety margin. The wife just does not know when to quit loading the RV! Sold the G's with the aluminum wheels and spare for $1,000 on CL to help offset the price.

I have the stock wheels (aluminum) and the stock 235/85r 16 trailer king tires on my Montana 375. How do I tell if I can run a tire with 110 lbs? The current ones have an 80 psi max, and thats what I run them at.
