5th wheel unsteady

Just traded the old mh for a nice 5th wheel that will probally not be moved much. We are expericing a lot of movement when someone walks around the trailer. Would like to hear favorite methods to stabilize the trailer.

Thanks

To keep it steady the weight of the trailer needs to be off of the suspension.

I suggest using a couple hydraulic bottle jacks located about a couple feet behind the rear axle to slightly lift the frame from the suspension. Only need to lift an inch or so, just so the weight is off. Then, using the front legs, raise or lower until level front to back.

A king pin tri pod and some wheel chocks will do the trick.

I never feel movement. I use a kingpin tripod mounted on bricks and kept tight. Front hydrolic jacks, rear scissor jacks, wheel chocks. I also agree keeping off suspension with bottle jacks would be most stable, but I'm fine without that final aspect.

The wheel chocks that go between the wheels and tight up will reduce moment, along with rear scissor jacks, and king pin tripod. All of them working together really minimizes movement.

Agree.

I'd be hesitant to use jacks on the frame. Some frames are very weak and will void the warranty if you put anything on them except a bike or two.

When we bought our current fifth wheel, we had JT's Strong Arm Jack Stablizers installed, front and back. It makes the fifth wheel rock steady, even when the washing machine is in the spin cycle.

We've been using Plug It Right Stabilizers for over 5 years on our Carriage. Took care of all movement when someone is walking around or the washer is on spin cycle. Diana
