I have a new 2010 Grand Junction 5W with less than 2000 miles on it.
The welded braces that the springs and axles are bolted to are off set by 1" left to right side of the frame (in other words left side is 1" different in measurement than the right side of the frame). This has caused the shock on the right front to rub on the tire causing wear to the tire. The shock has been removed so I can get home to the dealer to get this problem solved.

I have been told by several people that to cut the welded braces off the frame and reweld them will cause the frame to weaken and cause heat fractors. Has anyone had a problem like this. How was it resolved?? Some have said not to fix the frame get a new unit.

The manufacturer of the unit purchases the frame and axle from Lippert.

Thanks for your comments.

Mine was re-aligned 4 years ago for the same reason (it was out more than an inch) by a truck frame repair facility and there has been no problem...about 30,000 miles since.

Personally, that new of a trailer with a structural issue, I would want the manufacturer to replace the trailer. It probably won't happen that way though. If it is repaired, make sure the welding is done by a certified welder and is properly primed and painted when finished.

I had new spring mounts and springs installed by A&R truck repair in Chamberlain, SD last July. They cut the old spring mounts off with an angle grinder, no torch work involved. They welded the new mounts in the proper location for the longer springs, and when painted you cannot tell where any work was ever done. This was on our 05 GJ 35TMS, to make room for running LT235/85R16 LR G SAILUN RADIAL TRAILER CLSD SH HD trailer tires. They are made by Sigma Tire to directly compete with Goodyear's LR G tires, and cost (internet price) $160 each.

I forgot something. Your 5er is under warranty, it's up to an authorized service facility to remedy this, to do it by other means may cause you warranty grief.

(The frame and axle from Lippert.)
Lippert has a few recalls out now and yours may be one of them. They have made some real junk in the past few years. No way would I buy a new fifth wheel with a Lippert frame right now.
