adding generator prep after ....

Have a 2014 Montana 3625RE and did not order Generator prep from factory. My power cord is in the very rear. How hard is it to wire it for a generator? Would like to put a Honda in the back of the truck and have some way to power the Fifth wheel while stopped on the road. Thanks

We have a 3.4kw generator that we keep in the front of our truck bed. When stopping for an overnight at a parking lot or drycamping I run the power cord from the back towards the front and then use a 30 amp RV extension cord (~$50) to the generator. I disconnect the truck and pull forward about ten feet or so to get the generator out from underneath our bedroom. It's not the noise, but the carbon monoxide that can get into the trailer if there's no breeze.

If you want to place an outlet in the front, you should use a transfer switch, auto or manual, so neither outlet or cord is energized when using the other.

Another option is to run a line from front to back, with a male receptacle in front for the generator to plug into and a female outlet next to the original outlet. With that, you could plug your cord into that outlet.

You may not need to run a wire the whole length from rear to front. It will depend on where your main breaker is. Mine was just forward of middle so 20 feet put me right out to the pin box. With a transfer switch of course.

Ours has a receptacle on the front. Both the rear cord & front go to a transfer switch. Which ever one is powered then goes to the electrical management system then to the main breakers. Good transfer switches are not expensive and take up little room in the bay. Good luck.
