I looked at a very nice 2003 Cameo LXI 5th wheel a few days ago. Up the ladder, I was surprised to find what I would call a "fiberglass roof". By portable ladder, I confirmed this from the front curbside and took note but unfortunately no pictures of the sealer "gasket" that covered the transition from roof to sidewall. It was well above the gutter which I thought was a good thing but I didn't study it enough to see how it worked and where you would caulk it if it didn't. I figured it was "stock" and tech support at Carriage or the local dealer could tell me all about it. Imagine my surprise when i was told that Carriage never used a roof like this.

Unfortunately, the owner (who was a craftsman about every mod I saw on the RV) has recently gone to the big RV park in the sky and the Mrs may not know about this. It looked good enough to convince me knowing only that Carriage is pretty well regarded for their quality that it was factory. Does anyone know anything about an aftermarket "fiberglass roof"?

How bad do you try to beat up a little old widow lady when buying a used RV? I guess you don't so how do you really figure out "fair"

The question I'd want answered before even considering such a purchase was WHY was an after-market roof put on? What happened to the original roof (after less than 7 years) that required a new roof be put on? If I couldn't get any good answers to those questions, I'd pass on the purchase. Of course, YMMV.

First, is the roof one piece, or sectioned and seamed? I have heard both good and bad about the roofs, but some high-end trailers are using them I also hear.

Some of the 'old widow ladies' can be good businesswomen--let your conscience be your guide. I would consider it a pure business deal, if your own mind will let you look at it that way. I have been involved in 2 deals with widows and both were relieved to be rid of the trailer and the memories--and I did what was 'fair' for me without putting lowball pressure on them.
