Air Compressor choices

Trying to decide which way to go on compressor choices. Will be using primarily on fifth wheel and truck. Have received different opinions on oil free vs. with oil and 12v vs. 120 any advise will be much appreciated.

There are many options. I chose the Porter Cable 150 psi unit-3 gallon pancake. Usually $179.00 but found it on sale at Lowes Home Improvement for $99.00. Very happy with mine. My trailer tires are rated at 125# so needed the high pressure.

I like Duoglide's choice on capacity, you will never be dissatisfied with one that high.

But he forgot to mention if his is 12DC or 120 volt AC.

Mine is 120 VAC, and I really wish I had one of that capacity that ran on 12VDC.

The choice will be determined on how much of a hassle you think running it off a inverter, or generator would be if it's 120VAC like mine, pros and cons.

If you are not familiar with the off road compressor setups, I would recommend looking at that option before you decide.

If you went that route, buy only one that is 100% duty cycle rated. anything less and you'll regret it. I learned that the hard way.

Merry Christmas

DTW mine is 120vac. I also carry a gennie so did not need 12v. The P-C can be found at Sears in Craftsman label as well.

I bought a Viair 400P 12V DC compressor prior to going FT in 2007

5vr tires 'G' rated 110PSI
Truck tires 80 psi
Every week for 7 years used it to reinflate truck rear tires from 45# to 80#....would drop pressure when not towing
Used it to maintain 110# on 5vr tires

GREAT small compact compressor that WORKS

10 yrs old and still handles my airing needs around house now that we aren't traveling

Rolair compressors are great. Oil lubed is better than oilless. Your choice but the better the quality the happier you will be.
Also look at Ingersol Rand, they are also good.

Go to the CPO website and order the porter cable 150 psi pancake unit. Had one for 9 years and works great.

We have a 110v unit. Works great but useless unless you have 110v. A 12v unit will give better service. Now I have air on truck so I have air. I was considering adding air to my dually when i was towing with it. Would be much more useful.

Home Depot sells a bunch of great brands of portable compressors: Rigid, Porter Cable, Dewalt and others.

I bought a Dewalt, and it does me good. Check to see if the Rigid has a lifetime warranty like so many other of their tools. Compressors are often items with problems and many lesser brands have very short warranties.
