Alpenlite Aspen vs Heavier Models

Has anyone experience or knowledge of the lighter "Aspen" model of Alpenlite vs heavier models like a Valhalla? We want to upgrade from our old 25', 1990 Alpenlite fiver, and wonder what one gives up with the much lighter aspen model.

I don't have any knowledge of the Aspen model that you refer to in your question...but do own a 2000 Valhalla 29RK Limited.

I found a copy of a 2006 Aspen Alpenlite yesterday on the web during a search for brochures, after looking through it, it appeared to have a lot of the same features that are listed in the other Alpenlite series.

Don't know when Western Recreational started the Aspen series, would guess in the mid-2000's. Would guess it was introduced as an entry level to the Limited and other models it already had?

Is there a unit that you are presently looking at? The models in the 2006 brochure were 27 ft. The weights, tank sizes, cargo capacities, tires etc. are all smaller or less than the Alpenlite (Valhalla) model that I have or what is listed in the Limited brochure.

We bought our 2000 Valhalla in 2103. It was the length range, floor plan and quality of build that caused us to buy a unit that old and we haven't regretted it yet. It does have a sticker weigh of 10,200# dry and loaded for a weeks vacation of 12,600#. We pull with a 2014 Ford F350 SRW and it handles the unit fine. Don't know what your tow vehicle is....but from the weights in the 2006 Aspen brochure, it would have a dry of 6,647# and a GVWR of 9,000#. Much lighter than the Valhalla.

Don't know if this was of much help with your question?

Saw an aspen on E-Bay several years ago for $5,000.00. I own a 94, 27sl and thought this was a great deal. Went to look at it and found a cheap built unit that did not in any way resemble a real Alpenlite. I think it is something the kids tried just before the shut the operation down. To Aspen owners. Sorry for being so brutal but Aspen is just not in the same league.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like the Aspen does not measure up. We have a 1990 25' fiver, but would like to upgrade to something like what you have. Looking at a 2002 Riviera just now. We tow with a 97 Dodge 2500 V-10. Only 80K on it and it does fine, even with tall gears.

There is an" Alpenlite travel club" on Facebook. We don't get together much but do swap info and some post when selling. Good group of people. Take a look. You are welcome to join.
