Depends on nose shape/contour of trailer.

Ultimate 5th Wheel Connection

Ultimate 5th Wheel Connection

If so, how do you like it. One person I know said it eliminated his chucking and he likes the light weight taking it in and out of his truck.

Steve
Just before I bought my TT This weekend I researched (for almost 7 months) into buying a 5th wheel and the Andersen 5th Wheel Hitch. I don't think there is a better and easier to use 5th wheel hitch for the money. Its light and simple and strong. Now my findings are all theoretical but I base my recommendation from all the feedback Ive seen on this hitch. The gadget is outstanding! If I had a fifth wheel, this would have been my choice of set up.

Lots of folks like their Andersen and seems to work well. I have 6'4" bed so went with b&w hitch for Rams pick setup and a sidewinder. Didn't want to risk a rear window blowout in tight maneuvers.

I have an Anderson hitch as well. Use the safety chains too. If I remember, I'll snap a picture of the setup to post.

The hitch pulls very nice and smooth. No chucking if bolted correctly. On our first use, we didn't tighten down the 4 x 1/4" allen bolts on the adapter and man that was an experience! First stop felt like we got rear ended as the adapter spun around 180 degrees...thank god we had the safety chains on!

As far as it working on a shortbed, yes, should work fine. My truck is a long bed, but I have a tool box in the back that I was concerned with hitting it, but it doesn't come close. You have two options when attaching the adapter to the king pin. It gives you an additional 8 inches of clearance if you put the ball socket to the rear of the king pin.

I think the Ram short beds are the only ones that may have a problem as it is a 6'4" bed vs 6'9" like ours. I will find out in a few weeks.

I used the Andersen with my 2500 extended cab shortbed without issue...

My 2500 short bed ram does beautiful with the Anderson light aluminum hitch. Picked up my new to me 34 foot Holiday Rambler presidential with three slides. All that 750 miles home was a dream. No chucking no rattling no grease no wind blowing. It felt like I was glued to the road.
I cannot make a 90-degree turn without popping the rear window. The good news is Safe Lite came to me and replaced it for 200
Super hitch, super.
One post said you had to be directly over the ball before you can lower your trailer onto it.
Of course! All ball hitches are like this.
The flip side is you won't slide your hitch off your 5th wheel and drop it onto your pick up sides. How many trucks have you seen like that!
Can't happen with the Anderson. I have a 1400 lb. Pin weight so the only way to get my 5er loose from the Anderson is to lift it off.
Not possible to drop my 5er on my pickup bed rails!

Thanks to the Ram SB guys for clarifying. As for DrYancy, you may have been fine with a "Max Turn" front cap on that fiver.

Looks like you could use a set of air bags!

I am betting you have well over 1,400# pin weight if so that RAM should be sitting level.
I just looked your RV specs, you are in the 3K pin range EASILY! No wonder your AZZ is dragging. I would highly advise you weigh your trucks rear axle. Good chance your rear tires are overloaded.

Don't be so sure that RV can't come off that Andersen. That push pull handle that can't be locked is very easy for some joker to pull and wala your RV has popped off the ball going over some of the fine roads we have here.

Also Chucking has nothing to do with the hitch, a loose hitch is a loose hitch.

Look on RV.net there is a thread about the Re design of the Andersen. Looks like under hard braking the hitch can fail as in the tubes distorted! They just came out with a updated hitch.

Dr Yancy. Looks like you have your ultimate platform installed wrong. The ball is supposed to be forward. You are not getting proper weight distribution the way you have it set up

The picture looks like the Anderson is 180 off. Short beds need the offset with the ball center line to the rear. BUT, maybe the photo is misleading.

As I understand it, both the hitch and the adapter can be installed either way. I think the hitch goes ball forward in long beds and to the rear in short beds. However, I haven't taken mine out of the box yet so I could be wrong.

With Max Turn design, the front lower corners are swept back or cut away and the pin box is extended to prevent hitting the cab in short bed trucks.
