Any reason to get an 18k hitch over 16k?

My truck is only good for 15,100 5th wheel so I'll never get bigger than that.

I have yet to buy a 5er, but I'm seriously looking at light weight options. I don't want over 34' and 12k fully loaded max. I'm hoping to find one that's less than that though.

I'm going to get a pullrite superglide I think and I'm just curious is there any legit reason to go way over on that hitch. If I go with the 16k it saves me $300 over the 18k.

The only reason I can think of would be if you were going to "upgrade" at a later date, thus you would not have to buy a new hitch.

Agree as soon as you use the lower level hitch a newer, heavier rig will find its way into your experience.

I am going through the same hand wringing at the moment. Don't want to spend for future proofing at the moment.

I'd say buy the trailer first and see what you need.

My advice is go with the Andersen Ultimate. 24k and it weighs 30lbs. Removes in 30 seconds with no rails or anything left in the bed. You wont ever need another hitch.

I have a short bed so I need a slider. I'm looking at an auto slide hitch also. My truck can only go so high up and it's new so I wont be going with a new truck any time soon.

Think I'll just get the 16k since so far the only reason to go higher is for a bigger rig than I can even pull.

Thanks for the insight.

That is really the only legitimate reason (should you want to go bigger in the future). As you said, if you go bigger, you will need a different truck and depending in that truck, you may need a different hitch anyway as it may have the puck system, etc. that will differ from your current set up. You'll be find with the 16k IMHO since it is more than your truck is designed to handle. Happy travels...

16K hitch is rated for a 16K 5th wheel and 4000# pin weight.

There is nothing wrong/dangerous using a hitch at its rating.

Same thing goes for truck axle ratings, gvwr, rear tire max load ratings etc.

there you go.
A bigger trailer isn't in your future.
The 16k will serve you well.

What happened? I used the Andersen when I had my 2015 Ram CCSB without issue. Does your trailer not have sculpted front corners?
