Anyone used Hercules Trailer tires?
Has anyone used the Hercules trailer tire st235/85r16lrf to replace their Goodyear g614rst's. If so which worked better? The load rating on the Hercules is almost 200# higher than the goodyear at a lower air pressure 95# to 110#. I found a site that has them for under $135 shipped vs $330+ so you can see why I am a little skeptical.

Weigh your rig and put on tires made in the USA that will carry 125% of that weight. Do not deduct the weight on the pin. This will give you a great tire and very good safety cushon.
My 15,000 lb 5er had 16" G614s G rated that would carry just 15,000 lbs.. Now I have 17.5 " Michelins J rated that will carry 19,000 lbs. I am a happy camper!

thanks ralpher,
I did weigh the rig and the trailer axles have 12,450# on them, so even with 125% I am good with the Goodyear, but I just don't trust them. Besides they are really overpriced. I jwould go with the 17.5's but right now I just don't have it in the budget.

Some of those Michelin 17.5" LRJ tires have a 62 MPH speed rating.

Ummm, yes, they do because they are European tires (mine were manufactured in Germany), and 62 MPH (100 km/H) is the European speed limit for trucks. These tires are used as OEM original equipment under a number of heavy 5th wheels and have years of reliable service under their belt. Do you have any reports of speed-related failures of Michelin XTAs? I don't, and the XTAs on our 5th wheel have provided faultless service, unlike the 75 MPH-rated Goodyear G614 RST tires they replaced.

No. But who would report a tire that failed at - say - 70 MPH when it's not supposed to be run over 62 MPH?

Darn, just got home from a 4100 mile trip out west, most of the time I was running at 65-70 on those cheaply made 5-year-old Michelin 17.5" LR Js. Wish I had known that they were limited to 62mph.

These tires have been used for 5th wheel applications here in the U.S. for a number of years. If there were an epidemic of failures (as has been the case with the Goodyear G614 RSTs), the RV forums would be full of threads and posts on the subject, just as they are with the Goodyears.
Now, do you recall seeing even ONE thread addressing a Michelin XTA failure? I don't.
Do you have any actual, firsthand experience with the Michelin XTAs?

My first post was just a statement of fact. It came right out of the Michlin truck tire data book. Some people just don't know it, that's all it was intended for.
Because they work for you may not make them acceptable to others when they see the speed rating.
