Is this a Atwood landing gear leg?
Everything looks right except for the shaft that that broken is round. This is the shaft that comes out of the leg and attaches to the tube that runs over to the clutch/motor. All the pictures I see online have two flat sides.

The top plate that attaches that is welded to the side that braces on the bottom of the bracket to prevent the leg moving up and down came off(welds broke) and the leg pushed up and the shaft was resting on a cross bar till it broke. It was held on by two small tack welds.

If I take it to a welder and have new plates installed on the back and both sides of bracket top and bottom. Will this be too much heat on the inter workings of the leg?

you've found the leg on etrailer... just buy a replacement... and while your at it... by a spare set of gears.. and though them in your tool box... these legs can be changed in no time... and in my opinion are not worth my time trying to repair them... BTW if you do replace it... open the new one and add back 2-3 table spoons of full synthetic grease.... almost all full synthetic greases are very, very sticky... and will adhere much better than most off the shelf inexpensive greases.

Knock the pin out of that crown gear then pull everything apart. A trip to the welding shop will put your brackets back on with no damage to anything. Clean, add fresh lube to the Acme thread inside the leg, install a new gear set if necessary and reinstall. Atwood has any part you need and at a fairly reasonable price. As far as the crown gear pin, a rolled spring steel version installs easier and is a lot stronger and on mine stayed in place better then the grooved solid Atwood pin which can be a bear to install.
