Auxiliary Diesel tank
We just bought our new F350 to pull the fifth wheel that we haven't yet bought. That will come in the spring because we don't want to store the trailer all winter. (we just moved to Arizona) Our new puller is fairly thirsty, and the fuel tank is only a small one. I would like to know what you guys can tell me about an auxiliary tank in the bed of the truck. The truck we got is a short bed, I don't mind getting a slider, but there might not be a lot of room for 30-60 gallons of extra fuel.

I like my having my RDS 50 gal aux. tank. I would say get the hitch you need/want first being sure it exceeds the capacity you will need. Then you will know how much space you have for your tank considering the slider and all.

Congrats on the new TV and the future RV!
Transfer Flow, Inc. - Aftermarket Fuel Tank Systems
We have a replacement tank in our Ram from Transferflow. It replaced the stock tank and increased capacity to 60 gallons. Unfortunately for some Dodge/Ram owners, TF discontinued this style for some model years.
They have several models of in bed tanks and OE tank replacements. Be aware that the weight police will chime in to mention the added weight will change the load capacity of the truck etc, etc, etc.

I love the transferflow in my 2013 chevy 2500. I got the 30 gallon and that, plus my main tank gives me a max of 660 miles. Can drive all day then unhook and drive into town to fill the tanks. Sure beats looking for a station along the route you can get into.

The replacement tank maybe the way for you to go. I've looking into that for my truck and, when funds are available, will be getting a 60 gal tank to replace my 34 gal factory tank. Then I want a 100 gal in bed tank. Yea yea in know overkill. But so are my future truck plans.

I didn't even know such tanks existed. This looks like the perfect answer. According to what I see about them, the fuel gauge will work correctly, and that there is a way to reprogram the computer to show the correct "miles to empty"

Be aware that if you go to an in bed tank that on the new F350 you cannot use the gravity feed because of the new (15-16) sealed fuel system. You need to have a pump on the tank. I think I'm going with RDS but have not pulled the trigger yet.

I have an RDS 60G Toolbox/Tank combo with a Andersen Ultimate Hitch in a short bed.
Even with a slider, the mounts will be pretty far forward. Best bet is to take measurements and purchase a tank bease on those measurements.

Most economical is a truck bed fuel tank like the RDS, but you may be very limited with a SB and pulling a 5th wheel. Mine was 60 gal on a LB. The best option is a OEM replacement, like the Titan, but they are expensive. I believe they go up to 50 gal on a SB. It works like the original tank and integrates with the fuel gauge. They are also more likely to stay with the truck if you sell it. Somebody else is now enjoying the one I had installed on my 2013 F350 DRW.

I have the Titan 50 gal replacing the Oem tank. Works well for me and I get full use of the bed.
