Can I store my batteries to my trailer in a storage compartment in the trailer? The reason that I ask that is I am afraid that someone will steal them.

Jeff, Some questions that should influence your decision:

Are the batteries connected/wired in when you store them?
Will you be charging them while they are in that compartment?
Is that compartment vented?[/list]When batteries are charged, they off-gas hydrogen and oxygen = = an poentially explosive combination. They will also tend to get warm/hot. Both of these effects call for a ventilated compartment.

A side issue is the distance you will need to run wires (and what size/gauge wires to run).

They will run a short distance into a nice size storage compartment, the batteries will be used for the operation of the trailer(charging and power supply for the trailer).

The batteries in fivers are inside a storage compartment, so I don't why you couldn't on a travel trailer.
On my fiver there are vent holes at the bottom of the battery compartment.

Jeff,
You can put the batteries just about anywhere you want to if the compartment is properly ventilated.

However, in over 30 years of owning trailers, and storing them in public places, I've never had a battery stolen, or a propane tank stolen (both located on the tongue A-frame). All travel trailers (tent and conventional) usually have the batteries and propane tanks located on the tongue. I suspect you will find very few have ever had those items stolen.

I think you are going to an awful lot of work for nothing, and giving up valuable storage space unnecessarily.
